Between stimulus and response, there is a space.
that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
-Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) and an additional Specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy. I facilitate online creative writing classes for adults and previously co-taught creative writing in the women’s spirituality program at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. I am a writer, a blogger and my background in meditation and the arts positively informs my psychotherapy practice. I have an interest in Jungian Psychology, enjoy working with dreams, non-ordinary experiences and other areas of perception which we often seek interpretations.
My Personal Approach to counseling is grounded in both cognitive behavioral therapy and the expressive arts such as writing, personal narratives and dream work. I also follow a Strengths-Based model with Youth and Families, incorporating Mindfulness Techniques and assist families to construct mindful approaches to family communications.
My personal focus is working with children, adolescents and families on mindfulness and stress reduction. I offer mindful-parenting workshops and mindfulness groups for teens. I am also planning to offer “Writing for Healing Workshops” for adolescents in 2016. Details will be out in February.
My counseling style works well with persons suffering from Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Low Self Esteem, Trauma and Interpersonal Life Challenges.
Specialties I have developed are Group Facilitation, Working with Teens in Crisis, Anxiety & Stress Reduction, ADHD support, Play Therapy and Meaning-based therapy with Adolescents, Adults & Families.
I have over four years of experience working with children and adolescents of varied backgrounds, from public and private schools and through crisis intervention. I have experience with IEP’s, behavior plans, county services and in-patient psychiatric treatment. Recently specifically I work with teenagers who have experienced grief, trauma, express suicidal ideation, suffer from depression and anxiety.
